Hi, I’m Lou, the hands and heart behind the brand. I create contemporary, hand embroidered jewellery and accessories designed to be worn, loved, and lived in.
Every piece begins slowly, stitch by stitch, and finishes as wearable art made to feel personal rather than precious.
How it started
Embroidery found its way back to me during a period of forced stillness. While recovering from a serious ankle injury, I spent long stretches of time off my feet, sharing quiet handcraft moments with my daughter.
What began as a practical way to fill the days became something deeper. Returning to thread and fabric gave me space to slow down, experiment, and reconnect with making in a way that felt instinctive rather than nostalgic.
From that time, embroidery shifted from pastime to practice. One rooted in patience, presence, and intention, but expressed through a contemporary lens.
The Modern Stitch Studio grew from that moment. A desire to create pieces that feel considered, expressive, and confidently modern.
The Collections
At the heart of The Modern Stitch Studio is story-led wearable art.
My narrative collections are built around characters, places, and moments. They’re expressive, playful, and emotionally driven, designed to spark connection and invite interpretation. Each piece carries a sense of story, whether that story is bold and visual or quietly unfolding.
Alongside these sit my graphic collections. More minimal and abstract, they act as a grounding counterpoint. Focused on line, form, and restraint, they offer balance to the narrative work while still celebrating the hand and the stitch.
Everyday wearables are part of my core offering too. Pieces like embroidered hats bring this work into daily life, allowing storytelling and modern embroidery to be worn casually and often, not just as jewellery.
All designs are hand embroidered by me in my Sydney studio and made in small batches, giving each piece the time and attention it deserves.
