It all started with a movie and a place that stole my heart.
When I was a teenager, I fell in love with The Big Blue. If I’m honest, it was mostly about the tragic love story (teenager, remember?) — but I was equally drawn to the breathtaking Greek island shown at the beginning of the film. I knew then that one day I had to go there.
Not long after, I saw that famous photo of Santorini — the brilliant blue domes, whitewashed buildings, and endless sea. That image stayed with me. Even through uni, when I almost joined a maritime archaeology trip to Greece that fell through, and through the busy years that followed, I kept the dream tucked away for “later.”
Life happened, travel plans shifted, and “later” kept moving. Until now.
As I approached my 50th birthday, I asked myself what would make this milestone truly special. The answer was obvious — Santorini. This year, I’ll finally stand beneath those blue domes that inspired me for so long, camera in hand and heart full.
